10bit color encoding is a bit of a weird tangent that was/is heavily embraced by a lot of the hardcore amateur video encoders around the Internet because it provides a bit of file size reduction while keeping the same or slightly better video quality output in some movies. There was some hope that the h265 standard would include that but as far as I have heard, it doesn't. This is because no hardware accelerated decode hardware will touch 10bit color encoded files yet. Anything help would be appreciated.Īlmost nothing without a decent general purpose CPU can play high definition 10bit color encoded files. I do have ffmpeg installed as well, so if there's a way to just use that to copy the audio stream directly while only re-encoding the video that would work too. In any case, it's my understanding that I can also just use Handbrake to re-encode the video only, but I have no clue what settings to use. ![]() I had managed to find a batch file that required me to install MKVToolNix and an x264.exe but it didn't seem to function right, in that while it did appear to be re-encoding the video, it didn't seem to be creating the new file properly, or it was creating it somewhere else. The ones that play have this as the codec info:ĭecoded Format: Planar 4:2:0 YUV 10-bit LE Of course once I went to go play them on a friends Xbox, it turns out only a handful of the files actually work. ![]() So I did a bunch of research and found that changing container formats from MKV to MP4 was easy enough, and did it.
